When having teeth replaced with dental implants, a variety of xrays may be needed. Your dentist may recommend a CT scan, a panoramic image or a simple peri-apical. All these images require exposure to radiation. The guiding principal for all treatment remains the same, ALARA, or As Low As Reasonably Achievable. The goal is to balance safety with necessity. More complex treatment will require more xrays and greater exposure while simpler cases would typically require only simple peri-apical xrays and minimal exposure. Our office takes these principals very seriously and always minimizes the exposure needed.
